Who can open a Moneybase account?

Modified on Thu, 12 Feb at 1:44 PM

Individuals and businesses have the option to open a Moneybase account if they reside at a valid postal address in a supported country and can utilize the Moneybase app. Card services are exclusively available to residents of EU countries. This means that if you are an individual or part of a business, you can take advantage of the features and services offered by Moneybase, provided that you meet the basic residency requirements and have access to the necessary technology.

When this is useful

  • You wish to verify your eligibility prior to getting started, ensuring that you have all the necessary criteria in place before proceeding with the account opening process.

  • You need to confirm if you are eligible for a Moneybase card, which is essential if you plan on using Moneybase's card services for transactions and purchases.

Requirements

  • A residential address in a supported country, no PO boxes accepted. It is crucial that your address is verifiable and can receive mail to ensure successful account setup.

  • A smartphone or web access for installing and using the Moneybase app. This is necessary for both managing your account and utilizing the services provided.

  • A valid, unexpired identification document and proof of address; for business applicants, company documents will also be necessary. This documentation is required to verify your identity and the legitimacy of your address.

Who qualifies

  • Individuals and businesses living in supported countries are eligible to apply for an account, as long as they meet the other specified criteria.

  • Residency, rather than citizenship, determines eligibility. This means that even if you are not a citizen of a supported country, you may still qualify if you reside there legally.

  • Card services are restricted to residents of the EU, so it is important to be aware that only those living within EU countries can access these specific card-related benefits.

Supported countries

Europe and EU

Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland. Each of these locations offers the opportunity for residents to engage with Moneybase services.

Other eligible nations

Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom. While these countries are not part of the EU, residents can still open accounts but may have limitations on card services.

Card availability

  • Currently, Moneybase cards are available solely to EU country residents, meaning that those in non-EU countries will need to check for alternative options.

Getting started

  1. Verify that your country of residence is included in the supported countries list above, which is the first step to ensure that you can open an account.

  2. Download the Moneybase app and set up your profile, which involves entering personal details and preferences to tailor your account.

  3. Complete identity and address verification within the app. This process is crucial for ensuring the security and integrity of your account.

  4. If applying for a business account, provide company details and upload necessary documents, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements.

  5. If you reside in an EU country and wish to obtain a card, request it through the app once your account is approved, allowing you to utilize all features available to cardholders.

If this doesn't succeed

  • Your country isn’t included, and you are unable to open an account at this moment, highlighting the importance of verifying your location upfront.

  • You reside in a listed country but verification fails; ensure your ID is valid and your proof of address includes your name and complete address, then try again in sufficient lighting to improve the chances of successful verification.

  • You live in the UK, Australia, Canada, or New Zealand and wish for a card; cards are not yet available outside the EU, meaning residents of these countries need to await further developments.

  • If you split your time across multiple countries, use the country where you currently reside and can receive postal mail, as this will help in ensuring a seamless account experience.
