What is a W-8 BEN form?

Modified on Thu, 27 Nov, 2025 at 12:41 PM

The W-8BEN form is a document to be completed by Maltese residents who invest in US-domiciled instruments and who wish to avail themselves of the double taxation treaty arrangement currently in place between Malta and the US insofar as reduced rates of withholding tax on such instruments may be applied.

W-8BEN Forms may also be applicable to residents of other countries (other than Maltese) as long as their country of domicile has an existing double taxation arrangement in force with the US.

Your W-8BEN Form is completed with the information you provide at account opening stage and is to be digitally signed by you. When this is due to expire, you will be prompted on the app to re-confirm your status and will be renewed accordingly. Once submitted, the form is valid for three calendar years.
