Your qualifying balance is the amount Moneybase uses to work out your cashback rate. It is the total of your cash and investment holdings on Moneybase, combined.
How it is calculated
- Investment holdings are counted at the original amount you invested, your purchase cost, on an average weighted cost basis
- Any available cash held in your Moneybase wallets is added on top
- It is not based on the current market value of your investments.
Example
You invest €10,000.
- If the value of your investments rises to €12,000, your qualifying balance stays €10,000, plus any available cash in your Moneybase wallets
- If the value falls to €8,000, your qualifying balance also stays €10,000, plus any available cash in your Moneybase wallets
Why it does not move with the market
Your cashback rate is calculated from your qualifying balance, so day-to-day market movements do not affect it. Only a change to the amount you have invested, or the cash held in your Moneybase wallets, will change your qualifying balance.
How it affects your cashback rate
Once your qualifying balance reaches €5,000, you move from the standard cashback rate to the uplifted rate automatically. Below €5,000, the standard rate applies. For the exact rate and monthly cap, see How much cashback can I earn?
Do I need to apply for the higher rate?
No. Your qualifying balance is checked continuously. If it reaches €5,000 your rate updates automatically, and if it later falls below €5,000 your rate returns to the standard rate automatically. You never need to contact support.
