A stock (also called a share) is a small piece of ownership in a company.
If you own a share, you own a tiny part of that business. The share price can go up or down based on how the company is doing and what investors expect for the future.
Some companies share part of their profits with shareholders as dividends; others reinvest profits to grow.
You can buy and sell shares on a stock exchange during market hours, and you may make a gain or a loss when you sell, your capital is at risk.
